Post Sammy says' ... In near futuere all shows will be FREE !!!
Yeah thats what I heard n read ...

At work today a bud who knows I'm a Redhead
came over to tell me Sammy's playin' Detroit
which he was surprized to hear we were goin ...
He couldnt remember who Sam was playin w/ n that
really surprized me cuz we've talked n I know he's a
Big Montrose fan ...

Anyways he went on to say Sammy said w/ the $$$
coming in from Cabo n the Cantina's he'd like to have all
hid hsows free for the fans ....

And here's what I read :

Launch Radio Networks reports: Sammy Hagar hopes that in the near future he won't have to charge for a concert ticket again. Hagar told Launch that his other ventures, like Cabo Wabo tequila and his Cabo Wabo Cantina clubs, are making enough money to subsidize his live dates. He plans to pass that benefit on to the fans. "I'm getting real close to being able to go out and perform, big concerts with huge production, for free," he said. "That's what I'm trying to get to. It's a year or two early from being able to do it for free, assuming the company keeps growing the way it is."

Hagar's "The Tequila Made Me Do It Tour" kicks off this Saturday (August 6) in Independence Township, Michigan. Besides music from Hagar with both THE WABORITAS and MONTROSE, the shows will also feature a parking lot tailgate party with beach volleyball, auto shows, a "Sammy-oke" karaoke stage, Mariachi bands, and photo ops with donkeys wearing sombreros.

Hagar, who spent most of 2004 with a reunited VAN HALEN, hopes to start work on a new album later this year.

I think he will too JA ...
Sammy has never lied outright ,
may not of told the whole story due to other reasons
{eg VH Break-up / Re-Union TOUR / Sam n Dave TOUR}
but if he says summin like that I truly believe "HE"
wants this to happen .

When I talked to my bud @ work I said I could see
this happenin in CABO / TAHOE first but alot of things
would have to happen for this to come real ...

Alot of other ppl involved in a multi-city tour
were CABO / TAHOE Sammy's got more control ....
Also mentioned how "I'll Take U There"
was offered for free online n now is available from
I-Tunes but FREE first !!!

I guess ...
Thats What SAMMYs DREAMs ARE MADE OF !!!

We talked about this on the radio show today. Im sure the Cabo gigs will become "freebies" if things keep going well but as long as he doesnt charge $150 or some crazy thing Im good!

11 days til Tahoe! Whoo-hoo!

thing is.....why are the vip packages $200 then? if this is sammy's plan? i mean do like a lottery to be on stage and pay for you ticket and if your selected, then great, got the idea from toby keith's site....

i would love to see it, and know sammy in his heart would do this, but he might get to a point where he won't pocket anything, but the ticket will still cost money to pay for the venue's, waborita's and such, one reason the ticket prices for this tour are just nominal...

Hmm, let's see, I've heard Sam state the "free" show thing more than once in my 20+ gigs I've been to over the years. And yes, I know that he has played a very small handful of "free" gigs over the last 10 years or so. But let's be a bit realistic, he has a very large payroll to take care of, and they gots to feed their families right? His big heart is in it for the music and for the fans, but he's still got to fill the payroll. Perhaps he will play Cabo and Tahoe for free or for donations and the like, but as far as the summer tour thing that he has been doing on and off again for the last 10 years in the U.S., I just don't see it happenin'. Who knows, maybe he really is rolling in the serious scratch from CWT and the Cantinas, but enough to pay the band (Vic, Dave, Mona), a full Road Crew, Management, Lawyers, Insurance, etc, etc.? Man, I dunno?

More power to him and I would love to see it, but it sure seems pretty far fetched if you ask me. Heck, how about just lowering the prices to something more akin to prices from the late 80's / early 90's. Say $25 or $30 per ticket, no matter the seating location and drop the merch prices by a few bucks, instead of paying $35 or $40 for T-shirt, how about $15 or $20
.

Oh, hell, forget the free shows and price reductions, just promise and follow-thru with playing in the Seattle area at least once every year!

I saw him for free on Ten 13 in 1998 at the B-Day Bash. Very Cool. He has been talking about this since he got fired from VH. He even wrote a song about it. Only problem is, he didn't follow through with it. We got 4 and 5 Star I Love All Access Packages ranging from $150 to $400 and the going rate for regular tickets/ Maybe he made so much money off the Reunion tour he can Do It For Free? Do you guys remember his saying the only way he would reunite with VH was if they did if for free?

Whatever. As long as he continues making music, tequila, Cabo Wabos, and tours I'll continue to buy it, drink it, party at them and go to them. I'll take whatever he give us.

I think it's an honorable idea. If he can pull it off, he'll be my hero for yet another reason. :)

Whether all or some shows end up being free, I think the important thing is that he realizes that concert ticket prices are way out of hand. I'm not even necessarily talking about VH and Sammy concerts, but all concert prices in general are through the roof.

It's a viscious circle and it has to stop somewhere. Bands and promoters started getting greedy and raising prices and adding bogus handling, printing, mailing, and service fees to tickets. Concert attendance started to decline because prices went up. Promoters and bands still had profit margin targets so prices went up again so they could make the same profit off fewer people. So prices go up again and attendance declines again and it keeps on and on. The result is smaller tours confined to certain geographic regions and less live music all around.

Hats off to Sammy for recognizing the problem and not being afraid to go against the grain! I agree, if Sammy came my way (Southeast) more often, I'd gladly shell out the dough to see him. And if the concerts were free, heck, I'd make a donation just to show my appreciation!!!!

If I could say one thing to Sammy on this topic it would be: THANKS FOR MAKING MUSIC FOR THE PEOPLE AND NOT JUST FOR THE MONEY!!!!

Now THAT'S the SPIRIT! I'd be happy to make some kind of donation too. I'll tell you one thing....if he REALLY DOES go through with this, do you know what kind of PRESS this will make for him??? I'll bet it will be the talk of the music industry! Free shows, and certainly a free tour would be revolutionary and a truly ground breaking phenomenon. Especially in this day and age, where just going to a show can cost some folks several days pay.
I hope he does it. If for nothing else, but to prove those people wrong who are saying it can't be done.

Sammy as always mentioned, especially during radio interviews in the city he is set to play, he would do it for free if it wasn't for the record companies, venue fees, etc. IMO, his prices for tickets has always been relatively decent. You can't complain about the 5 star or VIP treatment prices, as those are limited, and usually the die hard fans don't care what the cost of that is.

Look at the Rolling Stones. Their floor tix are 400.00 ea. Plus they come around every year, or so it seems. Seems a lot for even the die hards. 4 Benjies puts you and wifey on stage with Sammy. I also see that the Stones are implementing a "on stage experience" as well.

Also, if you bought pavillion tix to the DTE show at the DTE box office, it would of costed you 40.00. A hell of a price for you and your sig. other to go see Sammy and the crew. If you bought them from Ticket Bastard, it would of costed you 65.00 with Ticketfast option. The convience fee is more then the lawn ticket.

See Ya Saturday On Stage At The Knob!!

In my opinion, there are possibilities that all shows will have free tickets. However, I think it's too far before it will make it. The organizers, on the other hand, if they can not give freebies, will at least give discount to people.
